Nationwide Court Websites Down, Inaccessible... "Suspected DDoS Attack"

Access to the nationwide court websites was temporarily suspended on the afternoon of the 7th.

The Court Administration Office is taking preemptive measures to block access, suspecting that a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack was attempted from outside.

Currently, when users try to access the court websites from outside, they remain in a 'loading' state for an extended period, and even if the connection is eventually established, the response time is very slow, making it impossible to use internal functions normally.

The website of the Seoul Central District Court, the largest court in the country, is also showing only a message stating 'Cannot connect to the site.'

The access interruption affects court websites that provide public services such as case searches, but there appear to be no issues with electronic litigation, the court's internal network, or the Internet Registry Office, so it is unlikely that there will be direct damage to trials or judicial functions.

A Supreme Court official stated, “There is currently an attack suspected to be a DDoS, but the court has its own Cybersecurity Center and data center, and is blocking suspicious attacks on the websites,” adding, “Due to a surge in access to certain sites, access delays for lower-priority users are intermittently occurring.”

They added, “There appear to be no major problems with the operation of internal networks, servers, or data center resources, but monitoring is ongoing.”
