The Digital Platform Government Committee and the Ministry of Science and ICT will hold the '2024 GovTech Innovation Festival' on the 13th at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju.
The GovTech Innovation Festival is an event held on the first day of the '2024 Korea Government Expo.' It shares the achievements of this year's projects promoted by the Digital Platform Government Committee and the Ministry of Science and ICT to revitalize the GovTech industrial ecosystem. The event includes the GovTech Startup Competition awards ceremony and presentations of best practices from GovTech startup support projects.
The startup competition was held to discover promising entrepreneurs with excellent ideas related to the digital platform government and to promote technology startups in the GovTech field. It was conducted in two categories open to all citizens: idea planning (open topic) and product and service development (open topic and designated topic).
The competition attracted high interest with a competition rate of about 18 to 1, receiving 284 creative and diverse entries.
A total of 16 awards will be given to participants (teams) who achieved excellent results in the competition, including three awards from the Digital Platform Government Committee Chairman, three awards from the Minister of Science and ICT, and ten awards from the President of the National IT Industry Promotion Agency. A total prize money of 80 million KRW will be awarded as prizes.
Additionally, the grand prize winners in the product and service development category will be given the opportunity to participate in the 'K-Digital Grand Championship.'
The startup support project is a program that supports commercialization, marketing, and other activities for startups in the GovTech field. Among the 20 companies participating in this year's project, three companies will present their best practices.
Lee Seung-hyun, Director of the Platform Data Innovation Bureau at the Digital Platform Government Committee, stated, "This event will be a meaningful first step where innovative technology and creative ideas lead to public service innovation."
Kim Kyung-man, Director of AI-based Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, "The core players of GovTech are private startups with innovative ideas and ICT expertise. We will strive to maximize cooperation between domestic GovTech startups and the government."
