Seosan City in South Chungcheong Province announced that the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Daesan~Dangjin section of the Seosan-Yeongdeok Expressway was held on the 7th at the Daehobangjoje area in Hwagok-ri, Daesan-eup.
The ceremony, hosted by Korea Expressway Corporation, was attended by over 100 people including Seosan Mayor Lee Wan-seop, local members of the National Assembly, Kim Tae-heum, Governor of South Chungcheong Province, and local residents.
This project will invest a total of 913.1 billion won to construct a four-lane expressway stretching 25.36 kilometers from Bangok Interchange in Hwagok-ri, Daesan-eup, Seosan City to the Dangjin Junction on the Seohaean Expressway.
With the goal of opening in 2030, construction began last November on sections 2 and 4, and as of May this year, the entire section is under construction. The section within Seosan City spans from Bangok Interchange to Daeho Reservoir, totaling 9.28 kilometers (7.46 km for section 1 and 1.82 km for section 2).

Additionally, an interchange is planned to be built within 2 kilometers from the Daesan Coastal Industrial Complex to the expressway entrance.
The city expects that with smoother and faster access from the industrial complex to the expressway, travel distance will be reduced by approximately 12.6 kilometers and travel time by about 20 minutes, resulting in an estimated annual social benefit of 68.8 billion won.
Furthermore, with the first international cruise ship in the Chungcheong region departing this year and confirmed operations next year, the city anticipates that the increased volume of tourism cargo will be efficiently handled at Seosan Daesan Port.
Mayor Lee Wan-seop stated, "The construction of the Daesan~Dangjin section of the Seosan-Yeongdeok Expressway is expected to improve accessibility to Seosan Daesan Port and Daesan Industrial Complex, disperse traffic volume, reduce traffic accidents, and enhance convenience for citizens. We will spare no administrative support for the construction of the first expressway to bear the name 'Seosan'."
