Airrain Unveils Ionomer Regeneration Technology... Targeting Global Hydrogen Market

Airrain, the only domestic company specializing in gas separation membrane solutions (CEO Ha Sung-yong), announced on the 7th that it participated in the Hydrogen EXPO held at MESSE Hamburg, Germany, and unveiled for the first time its water electrolysis ionomer recycling business and products that have been prepared over three years.

At this exhibition, Airrain introduced its ionomer and PGM (platinum group metals) recycling solutions and commercialization schedule, and held detailed discussions with customers regarding sample delivery schedules and business cooperation plans.

Moreover, leading global companies from various countries including Germany, Italy, the United States, Japan, India, and China?such as fuel cell vehicle manufacturers, fuel cell MEA (membrane electrode assembly) manufacturers, water electrolysis MEA, water electrolysis stack, water electrolysis electrolyzer manufacturers, catalyst manufacturers, and ionomer material companies?showed great interest in Airrain’s ionomer recycled product capabilities and recycling technologies, recognizing the company’s high technological expertise.

After the exhibition, Airrain also held meetings with its local partners in Germany responsible for raw material sourcing and marketing, including German companies ‘AMB tech’, ‘Curec’, and ‘LAC materials’. During these meetings, they discussed strategies for entering the new ionomer recycling business and strengthening global market competitiveness, seeking cooperation plans and execution strategies for higher growth.

Airrain plans to operate mass production facilities for ionomer recycling in November 2024 and invest in a roll-to-roll process capable of producing 75,000㎡ of PEM annually by the end of 2025. PEM, essential for fuel cells and water electrolysis, is a highly limited material with rapidly increasing demand centered on the European market. Accordingly, as a policy to secure a leading position in the ionomer recycling market, Airrain intends to continue expanding ionomer recycling facilities annually after 2025 by utilizing funds raised through stock offerings.
