Result That Will Trample on the Pride of Sacheon Citizens
The Gyeongnam Sacheon-Jinju Administrative Integration Opposition Promotion Committee held its launching ceremony on the 6th at 2 p.m., with about 70 Sacheon citizens in attendance, and began full-scale activities.
The Promotion Committee is composed of about 60 representatives from the economy, culture, sports, women’s groups, academia, and civic organizations, including Hwang Tae-bu, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Jeong Dae-hwan, Director of the Cultural Center, Kwon Taek-hyun, Chairman of the Sports Association, Heo In-nyeo, Chairwoman of the Women’s Association Council, and Moon Young-il, Chairman of the Sambul Association.
The co-chairpersons are five individuals: Hwang Tae-bu, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce (economic sector), Jeong Dae-hwan, Director of the Cultural Center (cultural sector), Kwon Taek-hyun, Chairman of the Sports Association (sports sector), Heo In-nyeo, Chairwoman of the Women’s Association Council (women’s sector), and Moon Young-il, Chairman of the Sambul Association (civic organizations).
Through its statement of purpose, the committee emphasized that the 110,000 citizens of Sacheon, a space aerospace complex city, oppose the Sacheon-Jinju administrative integration to build Sacheon as a world-class aerospace city and to protect their pride.
In particular, they stated, “Jinju City’s claim for administrative integration is nothing but political agitation,” and “Recently, some elected officials with weak political bases have politically exploited the scattered public opinion of Jinju citizens and are using this as a tactic to divert internal crises outward.”
On this day, Co-chairman Hwang Tae-bu said, “Jinju City’s unilateral proposal for administrative integration without prior consultation or opinion gathering with Sacheon City at a time just before the opening of the temporary office of the Space Aviation Agency in May is a low-level act that disregards the basic obligation of mutual communication and consultation between local governments.”
He continued, “Jinju City’s mention of the location of the main office of the Space Aviation Agency is also a shameless example of greed for the fruits that Gyeongnam Province and Sacheon City have arduously achieved.”
Meanwhile, the committee plans to resolutely oppose Jinju City’s unilateral administrative integration and strongly respond in unison with the 110,000 citizens of Sacheon.
