The delegation began their visit with a tour of Yeonhwasan (蓮花山) Park located in the center of Shenzhen City. Shenzhen, known as one of the four major cities in the central district, is also famous as a scenic city with over 1,300 parks. After touring various parts of the park, the delegation listened to explanations from officials of the Urban Management Bureau, the department responsible for park creation and management in Shenzhen, and discussed ways to apply these practices to Gwangyang City.
After benchmarking the park, the delegation met with Luo Huanghao (羅晃浩), Vice Mayor of Shenzhen. At this meeting, Mayor Jeong said, “Shenzhen is an innovative and creative city that has achieved remarkable economic and technological development, establishing itself as a global advanced city. I am truly pleased to commemorate and celebrate the 20 years of exchange history we have walked together with Shenzhen.”
He continued, “I hope that the bond will become even stronger on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of our sister city relationship, and I look forward to laying a solid foundation for practical exchanges and cooperation in the economic field going forward.”
In response, Vice Mayor Luo Huanghao said, “We sincerely appreciate Gwangyang for cherishing and consistently maintaining the friendship between our two cities. We deeply engrave in our hearts the precious friendship that supported each other during the crisis caused by COVID-19.”
During the meeting, both cities agreed to advance from institutional cooperation to economic exchanges to achieve economic development based on the trust and friendship built over 20 years.
The delegation then visited the “20th Anniversary Exchange Photo Exhibition” displayed at Shenzhen City Hall and concluded the first day’s schedule with an interview with the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily (深?特??) media.
During the remaining schedule, the delegation plans to visit the Shenzhen International Chamber of Commerce, Dagongfang (大公坊) ‘iMakerbase’, and the Shenzhen Eastern Environmental Protection Power Plant, focusing on economic exchanges and city administration issues.
Meanwhile, Shenzhen is an international port city located 30 minutes from Hong Kong and is also famous as China’s first Special Economic Zone. Since its designation as a special economic zone in the early 1980s, Shenzhen has undergone rapid development and is now established as a global innovation city with a population of 17.66 million, hosting headquarters of world-leading IT and electronics companies.
Since establishing a sister city relationship in October 2004, Gwangyang City and Shenzhen have maintained a close relationship, with mutual visits exceeding 100 times over the past 20 years.
