"Identifying Even Vacant Houses"... Mapo-gu, 2024 Household and Housing Basic Survey

From November 8 to November 27, for 20 days, surveyors will conduct in-person visits and phone surveys simultaneously
Used as basic data for accurate survey area setting and housing support policies for socially vulnerable groups

Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Gang-su) will conduct the "2024 Mapo-gu Household and Housing Basic Survey" for 20 days from November 8 to November 27.

The "Household and Housing Basic Survey" is a national statistical survey conducted by Statistics Korea every five years to accurately set survey areas and establish sampling frames for the 2025 Population and Housing Census and the Agricultural, Forestry and Fisheries Census.

The survey targets all dwellings and households in Mapo-gu, including vacant houses. However, apartments aged 5 to 30 years are excluded from the field survey as survey items can be confirmed using administrative data.

The survey items include a total of 14 categories: address and survey target status (reason for non-target), type of dwelling, vacancy status (reason), type of collective facility, construction period, presence of rooftop rooms and (semi-)basements (and whether occupied), total number of rooms, number of residential facilities, type of residential facility, officetel residence status, and more.

In particular, this survey will provide detailed information on rooftop rooms, semi-basements, and basement residences, which are difficult to identify through simple administrative data, to be used as basic data for housing support policies for socially vulnerable groups.

The survey will be conducted by about 40 surveyors selected through an open recruitment by Mapo-gu in September 2024.

Surveyors will verify sites using tablet PCs and conduct interviews with some households. Additionally, telephone surveys will be conducted concurrently through a call center to increase the response rate.

For more details regarding the Household and Housing Basic Survey, inquiries can be made to the call center or the Budget and Policy Division of Mapo-gu Office.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, stated, “Survey data will be strictly protected under the Statistics Act and cannot be used for purposes other than statistical ones, so residents can rest assured,” and added, “We ask for active participation and cooperation in the Household and Housing Basic Survey, which will be used as important data to improve the living conditions of Mapo-gu residents.”
