Achieving Clean Air Quality and Advancing as a Carbon-Neutral Future City through 39 Greenhouse Gas Reduction Projects
Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) was honored with the highest award, the Minister of Environment Award, after being selected as a Good Air City at the ‘15th Air Day Ceremony 2024’ held on the 4th at the National Assembly Members' Office Building in Seoul.
The ‘Good Air City’ award is given to local governments that lead efforts to improve air quality and set an example as future environmental cities. Dongdaemun-gu received this award by demonstrating exemplary eco-friendly city initiatives through various policies and projects aimed at becoming a carbon-neutral city.
Dongdaemun-gu has promoted 39 greenhouse gas reduction projects and 19 air quality improvement projects, achieving outstanding results in building energy efficiency, expanding eco-friendly transportation infrastructure, and increasing green absorption areas.
In particular, projects such as the ‘Garden of Knowledge’ and the ‘5-Minute Garden Project’ have expanded carbon absorption sources and contributed to improving urban air quality by spreading garden culture in daily life.
A district official stated, “This selection as a Good Air City is the result of Dongdaemun-gu’s continuous efforts toward the goal of becoming a carbon-neutral city,” adding, “Since clean air is a critical issue directly linked to citizens’ health and safety, we will continue to do our best for clean air and a healthy future.”
