Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is conducting a special contest to gather residents' opinions on the theme of reducing waste until the 21st of this month.

This contest was promoted to collect creative ideas in preparation for the ban on direct landfill of metropolitan area waste in 2026. It aims to explore various effective measures as reducing household waste has become essential.

Participants can propose eco-friendly policies such as reducing household waste, promoting recycling, and decreasing single-use products. They are free to suggest specific improvement plans and implementation methods based on current issues.

Ten winning entries will be selected. The awards include Grand Prize (1 person) 1,000,000 KRW, Silver Prize (1 person) 500,000 KRW, Bronze Prize (2 persons) 300,000 KRW, Encouragement Prize (3 persons) 200,000 KRW, and Effort Prize (3 persons) 100,000 KRW.

Additionally, among the submissions, a random draw will be held to give commemorative gifts worth about 5,000 KRW.

Anyone interested in the development of the district can participate. However, only one submission per person (or team) is allowed, and entries that duplicate or plagiarize other winning works will be excluded. Those wishing to participate can apply through the Gwangjin-gu Office website’s ‘Online Policy Room’.

The results will be announced in December after first and second rounds of evaluation. Selection will be based on feasibility, creativity, and economic efficiency. Detailed information can be found on the district office bulletin board or through the Planning and Budget Division.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We held this contest on the theme of waste reduction to wisely address environmental issues in response to the climate crisis,” adding, “We will actively listen to diverse and innovative opinions for future generations and strive to incorporate them into administration.”
