This visit to Goyang City was made at the request of the Asian Development Bank, as Janghang Wetland is recognized as an important habitat on the East Asian migratory bird route.
The city introduced various wetland policies, including the current status of Janghang Wetland, activities for wetland conservation, and citizen participation programs.
Janghang Wetland is recognized for its excellent ecosystem value and is the only Ramsar wetland registered among the Han River Estuary wetland protection areas. It is also listed in the EAAFP (East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership), attracting significant international attention.
Bruno Carrasco, Director of the Asian Development Bank, said during a meeting with the Mayor of Goyang, “I felt that Goyang City’s efforts to conserve the wetland were remarkable as I toured the pilot-operated Ramsar Goyang Janghang Wetland Ecological Center and Janghang Wetland,” expressing his intention to “collaborate on various projects in the future.”
Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City responded, “I hope that this visit by the Asian Development Bank will lead to expanded cooperation in various fields such as climate change and the economy.”
The Asian Development Bank, headquartered in Manila, Philippines, is a multilateral development bank focusing on climate change, biodiversity protection, nature conservation, and livable urban development. Next year, it plans to open the ADB-Korea Climate Technology Hub jointly with the Korean government, serving as a network hub in the climate sector.
