Jang Hojong, Deputy Mayor for Economy and Science of Daejeon City, signed a memorandum of understanding with Mayor Dorthy McCabe of Waterloo at Waterloo City Hall in Canada on the 5th regarding cooperation in the quantum industry and quantum technology between the two cities, including the Daedeok Quantum Valley.
The agreement aims to accelerate the establishment of the Daedeok Quantum Cluster by strengthening the cooperation framework with Waterloo, a global hub for quantum technology innovation. It includes joint quantum research projects, business partnerships, the creation of an information-sharing platform, and personnel exchange programs.
The city expects that this agreement will not only enhance global competitiveness in the field of quantum technology but also serve as an opportunity to vitalize the quantum ecosystem and create diverse business opportunities.
In addition, with the full implementation of the Quantum Technology Industry Act on the 1st, competition among local governments to take the lead in the quantum industry is intensifying, and the city sees this as a stepping stone to attract the national quantum cluster to Daejeon.
The city plans to continue its cooperative relationship with Waterloo and expand the scope of collaboration to other advanced industries such as artificial intelligence and robotics, in addition to quantum technology.
Jang Hojong, Deputy Mayor for Economy and Science of Daejeon City, said, "We expect that the advanced science and technology capabilities of Daejeon combined with Waterloo's expertise in quantum technology will create great synergy and further strengthen the global competitiveness of both cities."
