Middle Income 100% to Less Than 120%
No Income Criteria for Under 19 Years Old
Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province has expanded the support recipients for 'Type 1 Diabetes'.
On the 6th, Pyeongtaek City announced that it had amended the "Ordinance on Support for Type 1 Diabetes Patients" the day before, focusing on this content.
Last September, the city enacted the "Ordinance on Support for Type 1 Diabetes Patients" and has been supporting Type 1 diabetes patients from this year, becoming the first among the 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province to do so.
This ordinance amendment mainly relaxes the income criteria for support recipients and applies retroactively. The revised ordinance expanded support for adult Type 1 diabetes patients from less than 100% of the median income to less than 120%. For those under 19 years old, the income criteria were removed. The city will apply the amended ordinance retroactively from January 1 of this year.
Type 1 diabetes is a metabolic disease in which insulin is not produced in the body due to the destruction of beta cells, unlike Type 2 diabetes where some insulin secretion function remains. Patients require lifelong continuous management, such as automatic insulin infusion.
Earlier, since June, the city also expanded support for related patients. The support amount for those under 19 was changed, providing 1.24 million KRW for adults and 420,000 KRW for those under 19. Integrated support is provided for devices such as blood glucose monitoring sensors, continuous glucose monitors, and automatic insulin pumps, and the claim period for support funds was extended from within 3 years of purchase to within 5 years.
The support recipients are Type 1 diabetes patients who have been registered residents in Pyeongtaek for more than six months as of the application date and are actually residing there. For detailed information on application documents and more, inquiries can be made at local health centers in Pyeongtaek, Anjung, Songtan, and other areas.
A representative from the Pyeongtaek Health Center expressed hope that "this ordinance amendment will alleviate the economic burden, such as reducing medical expenses for families of Type 1 diabetes patients."
