Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do, is receiving positive responses by distributing crop pots made from recycled discarded banners to farms.
According to the county on the 6th, 700 "crop pots" made by recycling discarded banners in collaboration with the sewing club "Ssoing School," composed of local residents, were distributed to horticultural farms last month.
Inspired by the "non-woven fabric pots" sold on the market, the "discarded banner crop pots" attracted great interest, with a demand survey conducted earlier this year among horticultural farms showing a request for 9,320 units.
This year, 700 units were produced first and distributed to 75 farms that requested them. The county plans to survey satisfaction and improvement points from the farms using the pots and reflect them in future production.
The "discarded banner crop pots" achieve a twofold effect by reducing the annual disposal costs and environmental pollution caused by discarded banners and alleviating the management cost burden of horticultural farms such as blueberry farms.
County Governor Lee Byeong-no said, "I am pleased that discarded banners, which have served their purpose, are reborn as agricultural materials that can reduce the burden on farmers, taking a step closer to practicing carbon neutrality," and added, "We will continue to explore various recycling methods for discarded banners."
Meanwhile, Damyang-gun collected 3,090 discarded banners last year and has been leading carbon neutrality efforts by repurposing them into bags, umbrellas, and other items.
