Guri City Opens Bridge Connecting Galmaecheon Bicycle Path

Expectations for Increased Bicycle Use Among Residents and Improved Accessibility to Byeollae Station

Guri City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun) announced on the 6th that it has completed the construction of a bridge connecting the Galmaecheon bicycle path, a pledge of the 8th local government administration.

The bridge, installed in the Galmae-dong 6-2 area, is a 42m long and 4.6m wide composite rigid frame bridge designed as a shared path for bicycles and pedestrians. It connects the existing Galmaecheon bicycle path to the bicycle path along Yongamcheon in Namyangju City.

Until now, the bicycle path along Galmaecheon was disconnected at Yongamcheon, causing significant inconvenience for local residents traveling between Galmae-dong and Byeollae-dong by bicycle.

In response, the city established a promotion plan in July 2022, secured 800 million KRW in special adjustment grants in December 2022, and invested approximately 1.35 billion KRW including city funds. After consultations with Namyangju City, construction began in June and the bridge was completed in about five months.

Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun of Guri City said, “I am pleased to complete the installation of Galmaebo4gyo, the Galmaecheon bicycle path connecting bridge, which has been a long-standing wish of Galmae-dong residents. This will promote bicycle use among local residents and improve accessibility to Line 8 Byeollae Line, enhancing the quality of life for residents.”
