DDoS Attack on Government Ministry Websites... Some Access Unavailable

DDoS Attacks on Ministry of Environment Website and Others
Ministry of National Defense Also Affected... "Additional Attacks Under Investigation"

Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks continue to target government ministry websites. Following a DDoS attack on the Ministry of National Defense website, attacks aimed at servers of government ministries such as the Ministry of Environment have caused their websites to become paralyzed.

According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's National Information Resources Service on the 6th, servers of ministries and agencies including the Ministry of Environment and the National Information Resources Service have been hit by DDoS attacks, disrupting their operations. A DDoS attack is a hacking technique that generates excessive traffic instantaneously, making normal data transmission difficult and causing web pages to go down.

The National Information Resources Service explained, "Among the agencies managed by the Service, the Ministry of Environment experienced a DDoS attack causing a malfunction, and we are responding to it," adding, "We are defending by blocking the servers; although recovery has been made, there may be intermittent outages." Currently, access to the Ministry of Environment website is difficult.

Earlier, an attack also occurred on the Ministry of National Defense website. The Joint Chiefs of Staff website has also experienced unstable access, and the Cyber Operations Command is checking whether a DDoS attack is underway. The Ministry of National Defense is focusing on identifying the perpetrators of the DDoS attack. Previously, the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) recommended strengthening security measures against DDoS attacks by Russian hacking groups, noting that cyber threats are increasing due to North Korea’s troop deployment to Russia as of the 1st.
