"Harris Side's Defeat Looms, Creating Contrasting Atmosphere"

The U.S. Republican Party secured a majority of seats in the Senate in the federal congressional elections held alongside the presidential election on the 5th (local time).

According to foreign media such as the Associated Press (AP) and The New York Times (NYT), the Republican Party won Senate races in states including Nebraska, West Virginia, and Ohio, securing at least 51 out of the total 100 seats. The Democratic Party currently holds 42 seats.

U.S. Senators serve six-year terms, unlike the House of Representatives, whose members serve two-year terms; one-third of the Senate is elected every two years. This election involved the selection of 34 senators. In the House of Representatives, where all 435 seats are up for election, the Democrats currently hold 157 seats and the Republicans 184 seats, making it unclear which party will hold the majority.

In the battle for the Electoral College that determines the occupant of the White House, former Republican President Donald Trump has secured 247 electors, leading Vice President Kamala Harris, who has 210 electors. As of midnight Eastern Time on the day (2 p.m. Korean time on the 6th), Trump received 51.1% of the vote, while Harris received 47.5%.

Meanwhile, the AP reported that "Trump is moving to deliver a speech to supporters at a watch party held at the Palm Beach Convention Center," describing the venue as packed with supporters sensing victory. On the other hand, "Harris's side, at a watch party held at Howard University, turned off the broadcast and played music after CNN results showed Trump leading," with some supporters leaving the event, reflecting a contrasting atmosphere.
