Since June, Gapyeong-gun has been operating one electric low-floor bus on route 41 (Hyeon-ri~Gapyeong), and this time, three more buses have been added to the operation.

The additional vehicles are assigned as two buses on route 15, which runs between Gapyeong and Buk-myeon, and one bus on the newly established route 60 starting from the 5th. Route 60 is a town circular bus that passes through Gapyeong Station, Gapyeong Terminal, Hyundai Hillstate, Gapyeong County Office, and Han Seokbong Library. It was established to address the issue of increasing bus services requested by residents after the move-in of newly built apartments last year.

The eco-friendly electric low-floor buses being introduced have a low floor height and are equipped with wheelchair lifts, enhancing mobility convenience for transportation-vulnerable groups such as the disabled, elderly, and pregnant women. They also produce almost no noise or exhaust emissions, contributing to the improvement of the transportation environment. Additionally, the electric charging method reduces energy costs compared to fossil fuels, which is expected to help improve the financial management of rural bus operations.

Gapyeong-gun plans to introduce two more buses by December this year, operating a total of six buses. Furthermore, six buses will be introduced in 2025, and a total of 36 buses will be sequentially introduced by 2030.

Along with this, to assist residents and tourists of Unak-ri and Sangpan-ri who have experienced inconvenience due to the terminal change and reduction of route 1330-44 currently underway, preparations for route 44 have been completed in advance, and operation began on the 5th.

Tak Hye-gyeong, head of the Transportation Department, said, “We plan to continuously promote the introduction of electric low-floor buses to enhance the mobility convenience of transportation-vulnerable groups and provide eco-friendly public transportation services. We will also gradually improve bus stops to ensure that residents can conveniently use public transportation.”
