Emergency Review Meeting on Defense and Diplomatic Issues Held
North Korea Says "Condemnation Is Justified" Regarding Troop Dispatch to Ukraine War

Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, stated on the 6th regarding the U.S. presidential election, "Regardless of who becomes the U.S. president, bipartisan support for the Korea-U.S. alliance within the United States will remain, and the alliance will be strengthened."

After holding an emergency review meeting on defense and diplomatic issues at the National Assembly that day, Han made these remarks in his closing statement.

At the meeting, Han, along with Kim Sang-hoon, chairman of the Policy Committee, Seo Beom-su, secretary-general, other party leaders, members of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee and Defense Committee, People Power Party’s National Security Committee officials, external experts including Nam Seong-wook, professor of the Department of Unification and Diplomacy at Korea University, and Cho Yoon-young, professor of Political Science and International Relations at Chung-Ang University, discussed measures to respond to Korea-U.S. relations after the U.S. presidential election and the issue of dispatching troops to Ukraine related to the war.

Han said, "This is a very important moment in world history for the Republic of Korea," and added, "After today, a new U.S. president will be determined, and the situation of the Ukraine war may face another turning point."

He continued, "After today, a new president will emerge in the U.S., and the situation of the Ukraine war may face another turning point," adding, "Diplomacy, security, and Korea-U.S. relations are among the strengths of the conservative party. We are preparing well."

Regarding North Korea’s dispatch of troops to the Ukraine war, Han said, "North Korea’s (Russian) troop dispatch must be condemned for global peace, the security of the Republic of Korea, and national interests," and added, "The South Korean government is prioritizing national interests and is finding and implementing the best position."

He also criticized the Democratic Party of Korea, which opposes the South Korean government’s plan to send an observation delegation to the Ukraine war, saying, "Recently, the Democratic Party has been engaging in significant distortion and agitation. They are misleading people as if we are directly participating in the war," and added, "That is absolutely not true; this is agitation that distorts the essence and harms national interests."

The Democratic Party has criticized the government’s dispatch of the observation delegation as a "cunning troop dispatch" and "scheming for war on the Korean Peninsula." Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, criticized at the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the 1st, saying, "It seems the government is desperate to start a war," and added, "Until now, we worried about 'whether a war will break out,' but now there are concerns about 'whether the government will start a war.'"

The People Power Party plans to hold an expert seminar on the Ukraine war soon and further discuss future response strategies.
