Chungnam Province Selects Gongju, Geumsan, Dangjin, and Seocheon This Year
Chungnam Province will invest 48 billion KRW to establish the "Chungnam-style Silver Home," a major priority project of Governor Kim Tae-heum.
According to the province on the 6th, this project selected Gongju City, Geumsan County, Dangjin City, and Seocheon County this year through a public contest among 15 cities and counties in the province, following Dangjin City, Buyeo County, and Yesan County last year.
The Silver Home will be created as residential spaces for up to 20 people, divided into apartment-style and dispersed-type units. The apartment-style units will be built as standalone or multi-family buildings in areas with a high elderly population and good accessibility.
The dispersed-type units will utilize vacant houses or remodel entertainment facilities, and the target residents are seniors aged 65 or older living alone.
The province plans to introduce a smart management system in these facilities and provide care and cultural services in connection with nearby health centers and cultural and sports facilities.
In addition, retired farmers will be able to enjoy cultural and welfare benefits, which is expected to help alleviate the social isolation of elderly people living alone.
By improving the residential environment for seniors, they can enjoy a healthy retirement without leaving the region, and the project is expected to become a leading model for local governments nationwide.
A provincial official said, "Through continuous monitoring and consulting, we will improve the quality of life for seniors, and by renovating vacant houses and improving residential environments, we can help save on living expenses."
Governor Kim Tae-heum stated, "The Chungnam-style Silver Home can be effective in renovating vacant houses and improving residential environments," and added, "Healthy seniors living alone can spend their retirement in good health through communal living without leaving the region."
Meanwhile, as of 2022, the elderly population aged 65 and over in the province was 436,884, accounting for 20.6% of the total population.
