Trump Slams Pelosi This Time... Will It Sway 'Shy Harris' Voters?

[US Election 2024]
Pelosi Called 'Crazy X'... Multiple Insults Directed at Harris
Could Sway Female Voters in Battleground States

Donald Trump, the former U.S. president and Republican candidate in the presidential election, used misogynistic insults against Nancy Pelosi, the former Speaker of the House and a Democrat, during his final campaign rally just before the election vote. As abortion rights have emerged as a major issue in this election, analysts suggest that his harsh remarks toward Pelosi could influence last-minute voter sentiment.

According to U.S. media outlets including CNN, The Washington Post (WP), and The New York Times (NYT), Trump made aggressive comments targeting several Democratic figures during his final rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, shortly after midnight on the 5th (local time).

Regarding Pelosi, Trump said, "She is a twisted and bad person. An evil and disgusting crazy bi---." He then mouthed the last word repeatedly, adding, "It starts with 'b' but I won't say it. I want to say it too."

U.S. media reported that the last word Trump referred to was "bitch," a derogatory term used to demean women.

Trump also made several personal attacks and harsh remarks toward his rival, Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris.

At a rally in North Carolina on the 2nd, when Trump claimed that Harris’s McDonald’s part-time job history was a lie, saying "She never worked there," a member of the audience shouted, "She worked on the streets (implying prostitution)." Trump then pointed to the crowd and laughed, saying, "This place is really something."

He also shared far-right claims that Harris built her career through sexual favors and said she would be "a toy-like figure" to world leaders.

Republican vice-presidential candidate Senator JD Vance, during a rally in Atlanta on the 4th, referenced President Joe Biden’s recent comment calling Trump supporters "garbage," saying, "In two days, we will throw out the garbage. The name of the garbage is Kamala Harris."

Analysts suggest that the Trump camp’s derogatory remarks targeting Democratic women politicians could erode support among female voters. According to last month’s national polling average by WP, Vice President Harris’s support among female voters was 11 percentage points higher than Trump’s.

Notably, this election is the first presidential election since the federal abortion rights ruling in Roe v. Wade was overturned, making female voter sentiment a key variable. The Democrats argue that the conservative-leaning Supreme Court, tilted by three justices appointed by Trump during his tenure, led to the overturning of Roe v. Wade. In this context, Trump’s misogynistic remarks could provoke greater backlash among female voters. Foreign media also analyze that it could stimulate "shy Harris" voters?those who support Harris but belong to households or social communities that support Trump and thus do not openly express their support?to turn out at the polls in battleground states.
