Local Administration Research Institute to Conduct Feasibility Study Starting in August
Cheonan City in Chungnam Province announced on the 5th that it is proceeding smoothly with the administrative procedures for the extension of the GTX-C line to Cheonan.
The extension of the GTX-C line to Cheonan is a project that utilizes the available capacity of the existing Gyeongbu Line to extend 55.6 km from Suwon Station, the current terminus of the main section, to Cheonan Station.
The city secured economic feasibility based on the preliminary feasibility study review conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and has been carrying out a feasibility study since last August after signing an agreement with the Korea Local Administration Research Institute. The feasibility study is expected to take about five months.
The city plans to request a central-local fiscal investment review based on the results of the feasibility study.
If the GTX-C line is extended to Cheonan, it is expected to strengthen the city's competitiveness by enabling access to Seoul Gangnam within one hour.
Park Sangdon, Mayor of Cheonan, said, "The extension of the GTX-C line to Cheonan will serve as a cornerstone for alleviating the overconcentration in the metropolitan area and promoting balanced national development," adding, "We will ensure that the administrative procedures proceed swiftly."
