On the 4th at Gyeongam Gymnasium, '2024 KUSF University Basketball U-League' Home Final Victory Over Dankook University
The Busan National University women's basketball team achieved a historic undefeated championship victory in the '2024 KUSF College Basketball U-League' finals.
Busan National University (President Choi Jae-won) announced on the 5th that they defeated Dankook University 62 to 50 in the 'KUSF College Basketball U-League' finals held at the Kyungam Gymnasium on campus at 2 p.m. on the 4th, securing the tournament championship.
This college basketball league, organized by the Korea University Sport Federation (KUSF) since 2010, featured seven women's teams nationwide in 2024, including Busan National University, competing for the championship.
Busan National University set a remarkable record by winning all 12 league matches without a single loss, advancing to the playoffs as the top seed. They then defeated Suwon University, ranked 4th in the league, in the playoff semifinals to reach the finals, where they faced Dankook University, who had beaten Gwangju University, the second seed in the preliminaries, in the semifinals.
The final match began with enthusiastic cheers from many students and citizens, thanks to the splendid preparations by the Busan National University supporters group, Busan National University Front. President Choi Jae-won of Busan National University elevated the atmosphere by performing the tip-off.
In a tense and somewhat subdued first half, Dankook University led 24-22. However, in the second half, Busan National University, led by players Ko Eun-chae and Hwang Chae-yeon, continued to execute fast-paced basketball, accumulating points both inside and outside the paint. Maintaining their momentum into the fourth quarter with a 47-32 lead, they sustained their offense and secured the victory without any upsets, achieving the overall championship.
Jung Se-hyun (Department of Physical Education, 4th year), captain of the Busan National University team for this college league, said, "We played with trust in each other and without regrets, as we prepared diligently. I am very happy to have won the championship."
Coach Kwak Joo-young of Busan National University expressed, "I was stunned. I was very nervous. I think it would have been better if I played myself," conveying the tension of the final match, but also credited the players by saying, "Thanks to the players following well, we achieved this great result."
Founded in 2015, the Busan National University women's basketball team has steadily gained recognition for their skills with achievements such as winning the 2017 National Championship, the 2018 Macau University International Tournament, and the 2019 College League overall championship. With a newly changed coaching staff in 2024, they proudly lifted the championship trophy once again with their best performance in years.
