RaonSecure is joining forces with the Korean Society of Digital Clinical Medicine and MetaInet to create a safer medical society through blockchain-based DID medical professional identification cards.
IT security and authentication platform company RaonSecure (CEOs Lee Soon-hyung and Lee Jung-ah) announced that it has signed a business agreement with the Korean Society of Digital Clinical Medicine, a digital healthcare professional society, and MetaInet, a digital healthcare solution specialist company, to collaborate on implementing digital identification cards for medical professionals.
The digital ID project, promoted by the government as part of the Korean New Deal and the expansion of the digital economy infrastructure, has been introduced in daily life starting with the mobile government employee ID in 2021, followed by the mobile driver’s license in 2022, and the mobile national veterans registration card in 2023. The government plans to expand digital IDs to mobile resident registration cards and subsequently introduce digital certification for various professional occupations. In particular, a series of incidents involving unlicensed medical personnel who forged paper doctor licenses to work in hospitals have sparked major controversy, highlighting the need to accurately verify the identity of medical professionals to ensure a safe medical environment.
Under this business agreement, RaonSecure, which built the systems for mobile government employee IDs, mobile driver’s licenses, and mobile national veterans registration cards, will collaborate with the Korean Society of Digital Clinical Medicine and MetaInet to study the necessity of issuing blockchain-based decentralized identity (DID) mobile medical professional IDs to doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel, as well as practical ways to utilize them.
RaonSecure will provide its blockchain-based DID solution technology, 'OmniOne Enterprise,' which is widely used in government mobile ID implementations, along with its deployment experience to realize digital IDs for medical professionals. The Korean Society of Digital Clinical Medicine will conduct research on the necessity of digital medical professional IDs and their impact on medical practice. MetaInet will develop solutions to apply digital medical professional IDs in clinical settings based on the empirical advice from the Korean Society of Digital Clinical Medicine.
Once digital medical professional IDs are implemented, qualifications that were previously issued on paper can be issued directly to individuals’ mobile phones and, with personal consent, submitted to other institutions. Unlike traditional credentials, which are vulnerable to forgery and alteration, susceptible to loss and misuse, and cannot be verified online, digital medical professional IDs are difficult to forge or alter and support online verification. Therefore, it is expected that accurate online verification of medical professionals’ qualifications during employment will effectively prevent social issues caused by forged medical licenses.
Additionally, convenience in daily life is expected to increase, such as replacing cumbersome document submissions with online processes when proving medical professional status at banks, or enabling safe and easy access through digital medical professional credential verification procedures on medical professional-exclusive social media platforms. Due to the nature of blockchain DID, identity information is stored only on the individual’s smartphone, with only issuance records stored on servers, and users can choose to provide only specific information. Thus, medical professionals can use convenient functions without exposing personal information.
Beyond digital medical professional IDs, RaonSecure plans to provide OmniOne Digital ID for digital certification across various professional fields where licenses are issued. Through this, the company aims to lead efforts to resolve social problems caused by impersonation of professionals.
Lee Soon-hyung, CEO of RaonSecure, stated, “Through collaboration with the Korean Society of Digital Clinical Medicine and MetaInet, both possessing outstanding expertise in the digital healthcare field, we expect to replicate the innovation of digital IDs in the medical sector. Since forgery or misuse of medical professional IDs is a critical issue directly related to people’s lives, blockchain-based DID, which offers excellent authenticity verification and security, is the optimal technology. We will contribute to creating a trustworthy and safe society by applying it across various professions.”
