Reason: 'Absence from National Audit' · 'Perjury and Insulting the National Assembly'
People Power Party Walks Out in Protest Against the List of Accused
The National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee (Law Committee) has decided to file charges against 41 witnesses who were deemed to have either failed to appear at the national audit or committed perjury. Among them are Kim Geon-hee, the wife of President Yoon Seok-yeol, and her mother-in-law, Choi Eun-soon.

On the 4th, the Law Committee passed the "2024 National Audit Witness Prosecution Case" in a plenary session held at the National Assembly, led by the opposition party. A total of 36 witnesses were to be prosecuted for failing to appear at the national audit. Eight individuals were subject to prosecution for perjury and insulting the National Assembly, including Mrs. Kim, Ms. Choi, and Kim Young-cheol, Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Northern District Prosecutors' Office, who were included in both categories. Deputy Chief Prosecutor Kim is the person who was acquitted in the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation case involving Mrs. Kim and was selected as a witness.
Among those involved in the allegations of interference in the People Power Party's nomination process were former lawmaker Kim Young-sun, Myung Tae-gyun, Lee Won-mo, Personnel Secretary of the Presidential Office, and Kim Dae-nam, former administrative officer of the Presidential Office. This agenda was effectively passed solely by the opposition party while People Power Party lawmakers who opposed the list of witnesses to be prosecuted walked out.
