Yeongyang-gun - SBS Special, 'Field-Running Officials' Amid the Crisis of Regional Extinction

Local Officials Kim Donghyun and WJSN Dayoung... Life as Public Officials in Yeongyang County

Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, marked the grand finale of the public servant life of Kim Dong-hyun and WJSN's Dayoung, who became local government officials, with the last broadcast on November 3.

In previous episodes, Dayoung, appointed as a public officer in the Public Relations Team at Yeongyang County Office, and Kim Dong-hyun, assigned as a public officer in the Industry Team at Cheonggi-myeon Office, were shown responding to various civil complaints, communicating with local residents, and presenting practical solutions to local issues.

Dayoung, as a public officer in the Public Relations Team, visited the on-site locations of Yeongyang-gun’s proud three types of outreach civil services to experience them firsthand and sought effective promotional directions. One of the featured services was the “Agricultural Machinery Rental Center,” popular for its cost-effective prices and “delivery service.”

At the “Outreach Water Park,” Dayoung played with children and listened to the thoughts of parents raising kids in Yeongyang, providing an opportunity to gauge satisfaction with the ongoing education and welfare programs in the county. Later, at the “Outreach Oriental Medicine Bus” (Health Love Room for remote villages), treatment was provided for elderly residents with leg difficulties, demonstrating that despite challenging transportation conditions, care is extended to each citizen throughout the county, showcasing the advantages of local government administration.

Kim Dong-hyun, assigned to the myeon office, contributed significantly from his first day by picking Yeongyang’s pride, chili peppers, directly in the fields and carrying sacks, helping to alleviate the shortage of labor in rural areas.

He also responded to civil complaints on-site, resolving issues arising throughout the villages. Notably, he worked with the “Immediate Civil Complaint Response Team,” a representative group for on-site civil complaints, visiting households experiencing inconveniences due to facility malfunctions, installing essential items such as light bulbs and anti-slip safety bars, taking the lead in solving critical civil issues.

“Paldo Public Officers” unfolded unpredictable work scenes and problem-solving processes, revealing the world of “real public servants” previously unknown, capturing the hardships of local government officials, discovering hidden charms of the region, and creating authenticity and entertainment. It received praise for portraying Yeongyang’s distinctive beauty.

Oh Do-chang, the governor of Yeongyang-gun, said, “This program, which contains the hardships of public servants working in a small local government, well represented the efforts of officials who run around the field and respond to civil complaints to escape the crisis of regional extinction.”
