Feasibility Study Initiated for Suin-Bundang Line 'Cheongnyangni~Wangsimni Station Single Track'

Dongdaemun-gu to Formulate Supplementary Budget in June... Feasibility Study to be Conducted in November
Aiming for Completion by June Next Year... Prompt Proposal to Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Based on Study Results

Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Ilhyung Lee) announced on the 4th that it has commenced its own feasibility study service for the construction of a 1km single-track railway on the Suin-Bundang Line between Cheongnyangni and Wangsimni stations.

The "Construction of a Single-Track Railway on the Suin-Bundang Line between Cheongnyangni and Wangsimni Stations" has faced difficulties in project promotion, as Dongdaemun-gu's request for additional trains to the Korea Railroad Corporation was rejected, and the feasibility study commissioned by the Korea Rail Network Authority in 2022 predicted low economic viability.

Accordingly, Dongdaemun-gu secured supplementary budget in June this year to normalize the Suin-Bundang Line operation, which currently runs only 9 times on weekdays (5 times on weekends) one-way, and after passing the qualification review by the proposal evaluation committee in October, decided to start its own feasibility study service in November.

An official from the Dongdaemun-gu Transportation Administration Department stated, “We plan to derive reasonable results by reflecting indicators that were omitted or not sufficiently addressed in the Korea Rail Network Authority’s study, such as the increase in floating population due to the development of the Cheongnyangni area selected as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s ‘Spatial Innovation Leading Project Candidate Site,’ and minimizing the impact on surrounding land/building properties caused by the construction of the single-track railway.”

Ilhyung Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “Normalizing the Suin-Bundang Line at Cheongnyangni Station is essential for comfortable public transportation use by residents of eastern Seoul and Gyeonggi Province,” adding, “Based on a feasibility study that fully reflects the present and future of Cheongnyangni, we will promptly request the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to proceed with the project.”
