Kakao Pay 'Kakao Pay by the Numbers'
Due to soaring prices, the average wedding congratulatory money this year has risen to 90,000 won, an increase of more than 20% over the past three years.
On the 4th, Kakao Pay analyzed data related to the transfer of congratulatory money and found that the average amount was 90,000 won as of last September, approximately 23% higher than in 2021 (73,000 won). By age group, the average congratulatory money was about 60,000 won for people in their 20s, about 100,000 won for those in their 30s and 40s, and about 120,000 won for those in their 50s and 60s.
In a poll conducted by Kakao Pay on the topic "How much is appropriate for wedding congratulatory money?", 58% of respondents chose 100,000 won as the appropriate amount. Across all age groups, 100,000 won was the most preferred amount; users in their 40s most frequently chose 50,000 won, while those in their 30s most often selected amounts exceeding 100,000 won. A total of 740,652 users participated in this poll conducted over three days from the 1st to the 3rd.
Additionally, Kakao Pay's usage rate of congratulatory money transfer envelopes has surged by 360% over the past five years (2019?2023). Kakao Pay's transfer envelopes are features designed to make the 'transfer' service more enjoyable, offering over 50 designs suitable for everyday use such as congratulatory money, condolence money, pocket money, and Dutch pay settlements.
Kakao Pay stated, "To provide users with fun and helpful information during the peak wedding season in autumn, we planned this content," adding, "We hope users can continue to enjoy more pleasant interactions by utilizing transfer envelopes that can be selected according to preferences, age, and situations."
