John Cook Deli Meat, operated by comprehensive food company S Food Co., Ltd. (CEO Seongsoo Jo), won the Grand Prize in the General Food category at the ‘2024 Korea Food & Tech Awards.’ Through this award, S Food achieved the remarkable feat of winning for four consecutive years from 2021 to 2024.
The product that won the grand prize this time is the ‘Mild Bacon with Reduced Sodium’ introduced by John Cook Deli Meat. This product was designed and developed by reducing sodium content by 51% (compared to the average sodium content of the top three bacon products in sales) in response to recent consumer trends emphasizing health such as low-calorie and low-sugar. By reducing sodium, it offers a light and mild taste that anyone, regardless of age or gender, can enjoy without burden.
Additionally, the ‘Mild Bacon with Reduced Sodium’ uses a non-thermal high-pressure processing (HPP) sterilization method to minimize nutrient loss and preserve freshness as if it were just made.
The ‘Mild Bacon with Reduced Sodium,’ which prioritizes health and freshness, uses fresh pork belly to ensure great taste. The savory and mild pork belly is oak-smoked to add a subtle smoky flavor, allowing consumers to enjoy the original taste of the meat.
At the 2024 Korea Food & Food Tech Awards ceremony held on October 31, Kim Kyungdae, head of the Food Research Institute at S Food, said, “It takes a lot of time and effort to develop a product and present it to consumers, so it is gratifying and an honor that such efforts are recognized through this award.” He added, “Going forward, S Food and John Cook Deli Meat will continue to strive to introduce healthy and good products that consumers need based on our technology and know-how, in line with our vision to create a better world with good food.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Korea Food & Tech Awards,’ hosted by ChosunBiz and sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, is an annual awards ceremony held to identify the unique features of various foods and support and foster the food industry. The event selects and awards excellent products in each category such as convenience foods, general foods, food tech, and special sections through a first round of researcher evaluation and a second round of expert evaluation.
