Induksan was the only green space serving as a buffer between the nearby industrial and residential areas, but after the summit was cut in the 1990s to secure the safety altitude for aircraft, it was neglected and suffered from soil erosion during rainfall.

In response, Pohang City carried out a five-year ecological restoration project to return Induksan to a space for citizens, completing supplementary construction in 2022.

This year, an additional vehicle access road was opened, and currently, drainage facility expansion is underway.

Induksan Natural Garden covers a total area of 182,238㎡ (55,000 pyeong), where 283,101 plants including mountain azaleas and other ecological restoration plants were planted, and natural succession of the damaged silver grass colonies was induced, creating an eco-friendly specialized space.

Additionally, 8,750 plants of 21 varieties of four-season roses were planted to create a colorful and beautiful rose garden.

Furthermore, a 6 km barefoot trail was established on Induksan, providing citizens with a healing space to enjoy the natural scenery and comfortably trek, along with convenience facilities such as public restrooms, information boards, and rest areas to ensure easy access to the natural garden.

This autumn, a zinnia flower bed was created, adding even more diverse scenery.

Kim Eung-su, head of the Green City Project Group, said, “We will continue to preserve and propagate the native silver grass colonies and manage the area to create diverse and distinctive seasonal landscapes so that Induksan Natural Garden can establish itself as a new landmark of Pohang.”
