Yeongdeok-gun Yangseong and Jangsari Designated as Sewerage Maintenance Areas, Securing 25.4 Billion KRW

Promotion of Flood Response Projects Including Pipeline and Rainwater Pump Station Installation

Yangseong-ri and Jangsa-ri in Namjeong-myeon, Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, have been designated as the "2024 Sewerage Maintenance Priority Management Areas" by the Ministry of Environment, securing 25.4 billion KRW in flood response project funds.

Yangseong-ri in Namjeong-myeon is a basin-shaped area where, during heavy rainfall, sewage exceeding the treatment capacity flows into the sewage treatment plant, causing flooding. Jangsa-ri has frequently experienced flooding due to its geographical location as a low-lying area almost level with the coastline in some parts of the region.

In response, the Yeongdeok-gun Water Management Office has continuously advocated to central government agencies for the necessity and justification of flood prevention projects. As a result of efforts including on-site inspections and selection committee reviews for designation as a priority management area, it was finally selected as a sewerage maintenance priority management area as of the 30th of last month.

Yeongdeok-gun plans to promptly implement a project to alleviate flood damage by sequentially investing a total project cost of 25.4 billion KRW (15.2 billion KRW national funds, 10.2 billion KRW local funds) from 2025, installing pipelines and rainwater pumping stations in the designated areas.

County Governor Kim Gwang-yeol said, "Yangseong-ri and Jangsa-ri in Namjeong-myeon are areas urgently in need of flood prevention projects, so this achievement is especially welcome," and added, "Through securing this national funding, we will do our utmost to carry out and manage the project to protect the property and safety of our residents from natural disasters."
