Yeoncheon-gun, Purchase of 2024 Public Reserve Rice

Yeoncheon-gun, Purchase of 2024 Public Reserve Rice Kim Deok-hyun, the governor of Yeoncheon County, is visiting the site of the '2024 Public Stockpiling Rice Paddy Purchase' from this month and talking with related personnel.

Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi Province announced on the 4th that it will begin purchasing 2024 public stockpiled rice in dried paddy form starting this month.

This year, Yeoncheon-gun's planned purchase volume totals 4,359 tons, of which 3,879 tons are bagged (dried) rice and 480 tons are paddy rice. This represents a 3% decrease compared to the 2023 allocation (4,510 tons) and a 10% decrease compared to the 2023 purchase volume (4,788 tons).

The government rice varieties purchased in Yeoncheon-gun are ‘Daean’ and ‘Chamdeulim’, and starting next year, ‘Daean’, which was discontinued due to pre-germination issues, will be replaced by ‘Yeonjin’.

Paddy rice purchases were completed by the 28th of last month at two locations: Yeoncheon Nonghyup RPC and Yuchang Nongsan RPC, while bagged (dried) rice purchases will be conducted at designated locations in each eup and myeon until the end of November.

Until 2023, the public stockpiled rice purchase payment included an interim settlement payment of 30,000 KRW immediately after procurement from farmers, but in 2024, this has been increased by 10,000 KRW to 40,000 KRW. The final settlement payment will be determined by converting the nationwide average farmgate rice price during the harvest season (October to December) into rough rice (40kg) and will be paid at the end of December.

County Governor Kim Deok-hyeon stated, “With the change of purchase varieties to ‘Yeonjin’ and ‘Chamdeulim’ in 2025, farmers should be careful about mixing varieties. In particular, under the variety inspection system, if the rice is not of the purchased varieties, participation in purchases will be prohibited for five years, so special caution is required. We will take thorough measures, including deploying safety personnel, to ensure that farmers and related parties participating in the purchase can complete it safely.”
