Groundbreaking on the 5th for Gangwon-do's First Dementia Specialized Ward in Front of Chuncheon Senior Specialized Hospital

3-Story Building with 32 Beds... Scheduled for Completion in November Next Year
"Focused Care for Dementia Patients Difficult to Care for at Home"

Chuncheon City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Mayor Yuk Dong-han) announced on the 4th that it will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the dementia-specialized ward at the main entrance of Chuncheon Senior Specialized Hospital on the 5th. The dementia-specialized ward at Chuncheon Senior Specialized Hospital is the first dementia-specialized ward to be established within Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province.

The dementia-specialized ward is exclusively for dementia patients and provides systematic dementia-related medical services such as professional diagnosis, treatment, and nursing care.


This Chuncheon dementia-specialized ward project was initiated following its selection in 2022 as a national government-funded project by the Ministry of Health and Welfare for public nursing hospitals specializing in dementia.


The project budget is 5.6 billion KRW, and the ward will be constructed on part of the site currently used as a parking lot at Chuncheon Senior Specialized Hospital. The dementia-specialized ward will be a three-story building with a total area of 1,285㎡ and 32 beds.


Scheduled for completion in November 2025, it is expected to reduce the burden on dementia patients and their families by providing focused treatment for dementia patients.


A Chuncheon city official stated, “Once the dementia-specialized ward is established, it is expected to provide concentrated treatment for dementia patients who are difficult to care for at home,” adding, “Chuncheon City will continue to implement various projects to prevent the worsening of dementia and reduce the burden on families of dementia patients.”
