In a park in Cheonan, Chungnam, a pet owner was caught on camera placing their dog on a table and trimming its fur, causing viewers to frown in disapproval.
On the 1st, JTBC's 'Sageon Banjang' featured a story from a tipster, Mr. A, who recently witnessed this situation. Mr. A visited a park in Cheonan, Chungnam, on the 30th of last month and saw a dog owner grooming their pet on a park table.
The video shared by Mr. A showed the owner placing a white Pomeranian on the table and cutting its fur with scissors. The trimmed fur was scattered across the table, the ground, and various parts of the park. Mr. A immediately reported the incident to the park management office, and when a park official intervened, the owner finally picked up the fur from the ground.
Professor Oh Yoon-sung of the Department of Police Administration at Soonchunhyang University, who viewed the video, said, "The tables in the park are made for citizens to eat food or drink beverages." He added, "Perhaps the owner did it in the park because if they trimmed the fur at home, they would have to clean it up themselves." He further criticized, "If the park official had not come, the fur would have been left as is. This is behavior beyond common sense."
Netizens who saw the video reacted strongly, saying things like, "What are they doing on a table meant for eating?" "Don’t put your dog anywhere you want," "Your dog is pretty, but so are you," "Is this China?" "There are many inconsiderate people like this in the park near my house too," "A dog raising a dog," "The ultimate selfishness," "Because of owners like this, I dislike dogs too," "Pomeranian fur sheds so much," and "Public awareness has gone downhill."
In April, a woman was also caught trimming her dog’s fur while tying it up in a park within an apartment complex in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, sparking public outrage. At that time, most of the trimmed fur was blown away by the wind, and the woman put the remaining fur into a nearby trash bag before leaving. It was later revealed that the bag was intended for collecting fallen leaves and other park debris.
Meanwhile, illegal dumping of waste can result in a fine of up to 100,000 won under the Minor Offenses Act. Additionally, under the Waste Management Act, offenders may face imprisonment of up to seven years or fines up to 70 million won.
