Realizing Paju City's Unique Signboard Culture 'Sosodam' That Captivates Hearts

Paju-si Selects Winners of the 15th Paju-si Beautiful Signboard Contest In the signboard category of the 15th Paju City Beautiful Signboard Contest, 'Cafe Paju Miro' won the grand prize.

Gyeonggi Paju City (Mayor Kim Kyung-il) announced on the 4th that it had selected and announced 9 outstanding works from the '15th Paju City Pretty Signboard Contest' held on the 30th of last month.


The Paju City Pretty Signboard Contest is held annually to discover the charm of Paju City's unique signboard culture called 'Sosodam (小小淡)', which means that smaller, fewer, and clearer signboards that blend well with the surrounding scenery catch the eye more than large signboards.


A total of 66 works were submitted to the contest held from March 4 to June 28. After the first screening process by a panel consisting of Paju City design experts and public officials in charge of advertising, and the second final screening by the Outdoor Advertising Deliberation Committee, a total of 9 works were finally selected.


In the creative signboard category, the awards were given as follows: ▲ Grand Prize to Shinwoo Oh's used bookstore 'Bomeulseom' ▲ Excellence Award to Jina Kim's space 'Iruda' ▲ Merit Award to Hyejung Kim's 'Punglim Laundry' ▲ Encouragement Awards to Gayun Yoo and Minyoung Kim's 'Pyeonghawon' and Jaehee Son's 'Pyeonghwa Pharmacy'.


In the installed signboard category, the awards were given as follows: ▲ Grand Prize to Cafe Paju Miro (Tanhyeon-myeon) ▲ Excellence Award to Workshop Cafe Sanchaek (Adong-dong) ▲ Merit Award to Cafe Melty Brown (Geumchon-dong) ▲ Encouragement Award to 'Gachigage' social economy enterprise (Odo-dong).


The total prize money is 5 million won, and the award ceremony and exhibition will be held at the '2024 Signboard Culture School Since2011' on December 6. In addition, a collection of Paju City Pretty Signboard works will be produced and actively utilized in Paju City's signboard improvement project.


Mayor Kim Kyung-il of Paju City said, "We will continue to support and make efforts to raise the value of signboards so that Paju City can become a leading city in the development of signboard culture."
