Gangnam 'Unlicensed 8-Car Pileup'... Arrest Warrant Requested for Driver in 20s

Application of Escape Injury Charges under the Special Act

A driver in her 20s who caused an eight-vehicle pileup while driving without a license in the heart of Gangnam, Seoul, is now facing possible detention.


On the 3rd, the Seoul Gangnam Police Station announced that they have requested an arrest warrant for a woman in her 20s, identified as A, on charges including hit-and-run causing injury under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes and violations of the Road Traffic Act (driving without a license).

A is accused of driving without a license around 1:42 p.m. the previous day on Teheran-ro, lanes 1 to 3, near Gangnam Station in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, hitting seven vehicles and driving in the wrong direction.


The accident damaged eight vehicles in total, including one motorcycle and seven cars, and nine drivers sustained minor injuries. Among them, two were transported to the hospital.


A was confirmed to be driving without a license at the scene and was arrested on the spot. During the police investigation, she reportedly stated that she had taken a sedative. However, no alcohol was detected, and a preliminary drug test also came back negative.


The police plan to request blood and other tests from the National Forensic Service for A.
