"Taking the Kids to Use Up Remaining Annual Leave"... Office Workers Planning Trips to Warm Countries

Increased Demand for Winter Travel Expected, Full Effort on Promotions

The travel industry is showing signs of vitality after a long time. With only two months left in 2024, office workers are using up their remaining annual leave, and students’ winter vacations overlap, leading to expectations of increased demand for winter travel.

On the 3rd, Korea Economic Daily reported, citing data from the Korea Tourism Organization’s Data Lab and the travel industry, that the travel industry expects a significant increase in winter travel demand this year.

Previously, the Data Lab and others recorded that the number of travelers who went abroad in the fourth quarter of last year was 6,520,116. This was about 4% higher compared to the peak season in the third quarter (6,264,250). In particular, the number of travelers in December (2,415,767) was about 12% higher than in July (2,153,857), when many office workers take summer vacations.

An industry official told Korea Economic Daily, "Inquiries about overseas travel destinations using children’s winter vacation have surged compared to the previous month," adding, "Demand is expected to concentrate especially on warm resort areas." Related products targeting the year-end period, when office workers tend to use their annual leave, will also be launched.
