Ministry of Environment Evaluation Report: 'Only Excellent Institution in Honam'
Recognized for Efforts to Revitalize the System Including High Resident Participation Rate
On the 3rd, Buk-gu, Gwangju City announced that it was selected as an "Excellent Local Government" in the "Carbon Neutral Point System Operation Evaluation" hosted by the Ministry of Environment. Buk-gu is the only district in the Honam region to be selected as an "Excellent Local Government."
The Carbon Neutral Point System Operation Evaluation is conducted to identify institutions dedicated to activating the carbon neutral point system, a greenhouse gas reduction program in residents' daily lives, and to share best practices in order to reduce regional disparities in participation rates in the carbon neutral point system.
Among 31 local governments nationwide that participated in this evaluation, Buk-gu was recognized for significantly increasing resident participation through active promotion of the carbon neutral point system using various online and offline media such as events and SNS. Additionally, the "Excellent Apartment Lighting Equipment High-Efficiency LED Replacement Project" initiated in 2009 was acknowledged as an exemplary case that enhanced the pride of model residents enrolled in the system and reduced greenhouse gas emissions in the non-industrial sector.
Moon In, the head of Buk-gu, said, "Carbon neutrality is not a choice but a necessity for future generations to fully enjoy nature and the environment. Since reducing greenhouse gases in daily life is the first step toward practicing carbon neutrality, we will continue to actively inform residents about the necessity and advantages of the carbon neutral point system to further promote its activation."
Meanwhile, as of September, 119,337 households, accounting for 58.9% of the total 202,744 households in Buk-gu, have enrolled in the carbon neutral point system.
