LGU+ Announces Hacking Contest with Total Prize of 30 Million KRW... "Open to High School and University Students"

Any high school or university student interested in hacking can participate in this competition. Students participating in teams of four will earn points by solving step-by-step challenges such as finding security vulnerabilities in AI services and programs or decrypting codes. After an online preliminary round and an offline final, the team with the highest score will receive a prize of 10 million KRW.

LG Uplus has implemented a competition management system and cheating detection system to ensure fair judging. In particular, by designing problems in environments similar to real cases, the company plans to help students improve their awareness and skills in security through the competition.

Applications will be accepted starting from the 8th and can be easily submitted through the competition introduction website. Participating students will advance to the offline finals after the online preliminary round held on the 16th. The finals, with a total of 12 teams (4 members per team), will take place on the 6th of next month at the LG Science Park Frontier Hall in Magok, Seoul.

The total prize money is set at 30 million KRW. The grand prize-winning team will receive 10 million KRW, two teams winning the excellence award will each receive 5 million KRW, three teams winning the merit award will each receive 3 million KRW, and one team winning the special award will receive 1 million KRW. The winning team of this year’s competition will also be granted the privilege to advance directly to the finals without going through preliminaries when participating in next year’s competition.

Based on the achievements of this Security Hackathon, LG Uplus plans to regularly hold hacking competitions for students to nurture domestic security talent and strengthen its own security capabilities.

Hong Kwanhee, Head of the LG Uplus Cybersecurity Center (CISO), said, "We held the Security Hackathon to demonstrate externally that LG Uplus strongly recognizes the importance of security and to strengthen information protection and security activities for our customers," adding, "We will continue to focus on security to provide differentiated customer experiences."
