Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) will hold the ‘2024 Resident Autonomy Harmony Festival’ on November 8.
Seongdong-gu has resident autonomy committees established in 17 neighborhoods, where residents directly select and carry out village projects every year. In addition, the district holds the ‘Resident Autonomy Harmony Festival’ every two years to share the achievements of the resident autonomy committees’ activities and provide an opportunity to showcase the skills honed through community center programs.
This year’s ‘Resident Autonomy Harmony Festival’ will be operated in conjunction with the resident autonomy activity sharing meeting and the community center program presentation hosted by the Seongdong-gu Village Autonomy Support Center. With a variety of attractions and activities, it is expected to become a place of harmony and celebration where all residents can enjoy and come together.
First, the program presentation will be held in the Seongdong-gu Office auditorium (3rd floor). A total of 17 teams with 253 participants will showcase performances such as pungmulnori (traditional Korean percussion music), line dance, and singing classes.
In the plaza in front of the district office, each neighborhood will autonomously select themes to operate promotional booths featuring exhibitions, experiences, and sales. Various hands-on activities will be offered, including selling EM (Effective Microorganisms) soap made by residents, handmade crafts from workshops, making wire dolls, and creating mini flower pots. This will be a meaningful time to share the achievements of the resident autonomy projects over the past year.
Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, “The ‘Resident Autonomy Harmony Festival’ is a meaningful event where residents themselves are the main actors, and it is expected to be a festival where everyone can come together and enjoy.” He added, “We will continue to support so that the Seongdong-style resident autonomy can repeatedly develop and grow, taking deeper root.”
