On the 2nd, the highest daytime temperature in Seoul reached 25.1 degrees Celsius. This is the fourth time since modern weather observations began in Seoul in 1907 that the temperature has exceeded 25 degrees in November. The average high temperature in Seoul around this time of year is 15.7 degrees, so the temperature on this day was nearly 10 degrees higher than the average.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the highest temperature in Seoul (Songwol-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul Meteorological Observatory) until 3:30 PM was 25.1 degrees, recorded at 3:10 PM. Since modern weather observations began in Seoul on October 1, 1907, the temperature has exceeded 25 degrees in November only four times, including this occasion, ranking it as the fourth highest. The highest November temperature ever recorded in Seoul was 25.9 degrees on November 2 last year.
Not only in Seoul, but also in various parts of the central region west of the Baekdudaegan mountain range, November highest temperature records were broken. In Incheon Ganghwa and Chungnam Hongseong, the highest temperatures were 23.1 and 23.6 degrees respectively, ranking second highest since weather observations began in those areas. Dongducheon in Gyeonggi (24.3 degrees) and Seosan in Chungnam (23.7 degrees) recorded the third highest temperatures on record.
On this day, Jeju and the southern regions experienced cloudy skies and rain due to a low-pressure system passing over the southern sea of Jeju, while the east coast and mountainous areas of Gangwon saw rain caused by easterly winds blowing from a high-pressure system moving eastward from northern China.
On the other hand, the Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon were clear under the influence of the high-pressure system over northern China, and it was very mild as the dry, warm easterly winds crossed the mountain range, bringing rain to Gangwon Yeongdong.
Temperatures are expected to gradually decrease. On Sunday, the 3rd, the morning low temperatures will range from 7 to 15 degrees, and the daytime highs will be between 19 and 23 degrees, slightly lower than on the 2nd. Afterward, as the continental high-pressure system expands significantly, temperatures will drop sharply starting from the daytime of the 4th. From Tuesday the 5th through Friday the 8th, morning temperatures will range between -1 and 10 degrees Celsius, and daytime temperatures will be between 15 and 21 degrees, below the average for this time of year.
