According to Lee, he was born in January 1953 in a small rural village in Goesan-gun, Chungbuk Province. After parting ways with his birth mother around the age of three, he lived with his hearing-impaired father at his uncle’s house. Lee said he was unable to complete his education properly due to his grandfather’s discrimination and was burdened with chores from a young age, helping with farm work and assisting at his uncle’s barbershop.
He lamented, "My grandfather, as if venting his anger, said 'You don’t need school, just go work in the fields.' I did all sorts of things. At that young age, I even grew tobacco and pulled weeds," adding, "My uncle ran a barbershop, and I had to fetch water for washing hair from the stream."
After recently reuniting with his birth mother, Lee said, “When I asked my mother why she gave birth to us and then ran away, she said it was because my grandfather harassed her whenever he drank.” Lee explained, “My grandfather drank a lot, and back then there were no hearing aids, so my father couldn’t hear even when my mother shouted. When my father was sent to buy alcohol, it took 30 to 40 minutes, and during that time, my grandfather did terrible things to my mother.”
He continued, "My mother came back home twice to try to live there. She gritted her teeth and tried to stay, but my grandfather did the same again. If things had been okay there, she would have stayed. So she decided she couldn’t live there and ran away completely."
He added, "I never talked about this anywhere. I didn’t even tell my wife. But the neighbors all cursed my mother, calling her a 'wicked woman who left her flesh and blood behind.' But who could endure a father-in-law who harasses you?"

On that day, Lee caught attention standing in front of the camera wearing a white dress and lipstick. He revealed that he is currently practicing a new skill following his specialty, the Tong dance. Lee said, "It’s a traditional North Korean dance called the magic dance. It’s a dance where you change clothes while dancing. I’m still learning it." He concluded by saying, "I’m so grateful that people haven’t forgotten Tong Ajussi," and added, "There’s also a fan dance for part two. I will entertain you all comically."
Meanwhile, Lee gained fame for his flexibility that allowed him to pass through even small holes. He was active on TV variety shows from the late 1990s to the early 2000s. He enjoyed popularity with his amazing physical abilities and a unique dance known as the 'Tong Ajussi dance.' In 1997, he appeared on KBS 2TV's 'Super Sunday' and also appeared on Japanese TV.
