University Student Mentors Provide Educational Volunteering for Mentees in Areas Surrounding Nuclear Power Plants

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (President Hwang Ju-ho) is recruiting 50 mentors and 300 mentees for the ‘Einstein Class.’

Einstein Class is KHNP’s representative regional coexistence education program where university student mentors help youth living near nuclear power plants with their studies and career exploration.

KHNP selects mentors from university students nationwide, and mentees are selected from elementary and middle school students residing in areas near nuclear power plants. Selected mentors will be assigned to the power plant vicinity for about three weeks to provide study guidance and other activities for the mentees.

Mentors wishing to participate can apply through the Better World website from the 1st to the 17th, and mentees can apply through their respective schools and local children’s centers from the 1st to the 22nd. Detailed information can be found in the announcements section on the KHNP website.

Now in its 16th year, Einstein Class began in 2010 with 43 university student mentors and has produced a total of 737 mentors and 5,048 mentees over 15 years, establishing itself as KHNP’s long-standing education program.

KHNP has made some improvements to the Einstein Class system to introduce new changes. First, in addition to subject mentoring, the ‘Global Citizenship Education’ program with foreign-national university students will be expanded to support mentees in growing into global talents.

Also, for university student mentors, KHNP will hold a ‘Career Consulting’ lecture with KHNP employees and newly establish the ‘WE (Work Experience) Camp,’ a program designed to enhance understanding of nuclear power and encourage participation in KHNP’s social contribution activities, providing growth opportunities not only for mentees but also for mentors.

Hwang Ju-ho, President of KHNP, sent a message of encouragement, saying, “Although it is a short period of three weeks, I hope that, like the Einstein Class slogan ‘Sharing learning and learning sharing,’ mentors and mentees will harmonize well, share knowledge, and learn the preciousness of growing together.”

Going forward, KHNP plans to continue various social contribution activities to share knowledge with youth living near nuclear power plants, share love with neighbors in need, and bring hope to society.
