"How Did They Achieve It, Yet Walk the Path of Decline Again?"
Hong Jun-pyo, the mayor of Daegu, has called for a strong reform directed at President Yoon Suk-yeol. He warned that if President Yoon collapses, it would be difficult to guarantee the future of the ruling party.
On the 1st, Mayor Hong wrote on his Facebook, "If Yoon-tong (President Yoon Suk-yeol) collapses, there will be no next presidential election for us."
He recalled, "Right after the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye in March 2017, even conservative media were clamoring for the party to be disbanded. At that time, with the party's approval rating at 4%, I thought we should at least try to save the party." He added, "At such a desperate moment, I resigned as governor of Gyeongnam at the party's request and ran in the presidential election after the impeachment."
He continued, "Throughout the campaign period, despite the cold media response and ridicule, I steadfastly aimed for 15%. I believed that if I could get just 15%, the campaign funds would be reimbursed and the party could establish a foundation to rise anew."
Mayor Hong expressed frustration, saying, "Seeing Yoon-tong and Han Dong-hoon (the leader), who share the same roots, attempting a joint resignation is even more infuriating." He sharply criticized, "How can a regime that was hard-won be heading down the path of collapse again?"
Mayor Hong urged, "In Chinese imperial studies, an emperor must be 면후심흑 (myeonhushimhuk; thick-faced and black-hearted). The party is neglecting its duties (放棄, abandonment without looking back). The presidential secretariat must be completely reformed, and the cabinet must also be thoroughly renewed to face the people anew. If delayed any longer, it will be difficult to restore the momentum of state affairs."
