KB Insurance announced on the 1st that it has significantly expanded legal cost support in driver insurance by revising and launching the 'KB Plus Driver Injury Insurance,' which is the first in the industry to newly provide coverage for suspected sudden unintended acceleration accidents and attorney fees for each stage of litigation.
Through this revision, KB Insurance introduced the industry's first special coverage for 'Attorney Fees for Sudden Unintended Acceleration Accidents,' which supports attorney fees when the insured files a civil lawsuit against the manufacturer in the event of a suspected sudden unintended acceleration accident. This special coverage reimburses 80% of the attorney's initial retainer fee up to a maximum of 5 million KRW, limited to the first trial. It explained that this expands coverage beyond the existing driver insurance, which was limited to criminal liability, to include civil lawsuits, thereby addressing previous coverage gaps.
A new special coverage called 'Attorney Fees by Litigation Stage,' which guarantees attorney fees for each stage of the trial, was also added. Previously, if attorney fees were fully used in the first trial, additional support was not available for the appeal or final appeal stages, limiting the insured's response options. However, with this special coverage, attorney fees can be supported at each stage of the trial, and the insurance premium has been reduced to about half of the previous level, significantly easing the burden on the insured.
Additionally, the scope of driver cost coverage, including traffic accident handling support funds, attorney fees, and fines, has been expanded from accidents occurring only while driving to also include accidents occurring immediately after driving while not in the vehicle. Previously, driver insurance only covered accidents occurring during driving, but with this revision, accidents occurring after parking and exiting the vehicle, as well as accidents caused by collisions with other vehicles driving immediately after exiting, are now covered.
Shin Deok-man, Head of Long-term Products Division at KB Insurance, stated, “Through this revision, we have established a coverage system tailored to customer needs, including non-occupant automobile accidents and sudden unintended acceleration accidents, which had remained coverage gaps until now. We will continue to do our best to develop products that provide the coverage our customers want.”
