Ulsan City announced on the 1st that the final winning design for the ‘Youth Culture Center’ architectural competition was selected as ‘Weaving Ground - An Open Platform Full of Exchange and Enjoyment as a New Cultural Hub,’ a joint submission by MPT Engineering Architects Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Won-hyo) and ING Architects Co., Ltd. (CEO Cho Hyun-seok).
The winning design received high praise for its creative and original facade plan, easily accessible circulation paths in the youthful street area, the creation of a plaza for various cultural activities of citizens and youth club activities, and the arrangement plan of program rooms.
Following the selection of the winning design, Ulsan City plans to complete the detailed design by January 2026 and finish construction by November 2028.
The Youth Culture Center will be built on part of the Jungbu Fire Station site in Seongnam-dong, Jung-gu, with a total investment of 41 billion KRW. It will have a total floor area of 9,200㎡, consisting of 2 basement floors and 7 above-ground floors.
Key facilities will include a K-POP specialized education space, club practice rooms, a 4th industrial revolution experience room, career and job experience rooms, a book cafe, a pop-up store, and a youth counseling and welfare center.
An official from Ulsan City stated, “Through the establishment of the Youth Culture Center, we hope to nurture youth talents who will lead the 4th Industrial Revolution era and create dedicated spaces where young people can freely express their talents and abilities through various experiences and activities, serving as a focal point for youth facilities.”
