"Crouching Down to Perfectly Organize by Pulling Out Items"... Hyundai Motor Affiliate Unveils 'Work-Savvy Robot'

Boston Dynamics Releases New Video of Humanoid Robot

Boston Dynamics, the robotics subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group, has released a new video after six months. In the video, the humanoid robot accurately recognizes and moves objects, continuing its tasks by learning and correcting itself even during motion failures.

On the 30th of last month (local time), Boston Dynamics unveiled a video showing the humanoid robot Atlas working like a human in a factory. In the video, Atlas performs the task of moving automotive engine cover parts into a mobile storage bin.

Atlas uses a machine learning vision model to recognize the location and type of parts, determining the precise grasp points to pick up objects. It then inserts the objects into designated compartments within the mobile storage bin according to part type.

Moreover, Atlas autonomously responds even to motion failures. In the video, Atlas makes a mistake where a part gets caught in the storage compartment during the task but immediately adjusts its posture and resumes the work normally.

Boston Dynamics emphasized that "there was no remote operation during the process, and all movements are autonomously generated through the robot's perception-decision-control process."

Additionally, on October 31st, Halloween, the company released another video showing Atlas dressed as a hot dog performing the same task. In this video, Atlas demonstrates excellent adaptability by autonomously locating a mobile storage bin that had been secretly moved by a person and continuing its work after finding the correct position.

An industry insider commented, "It is significant that Atlas has proven autonomous work capabilities with minimal human intervention," adding, "Especially based on advanced technology, the deployment timeline to production sites is expected to be accelerated."

This video was released six months after Boston Dynamics unveiled the second-generation Atlas model in April. Boston Dynamics is developing Atlas by changing its drive system from hydraulic to electric and enhancing the robot's perception and decision-making abilities using AI.
