Lee Hyun-jae, Mayor of Hanam City, is conducting the 'October Traditional Market Day' campaign encouraging shopping at traditional markets together with the Women's Association. “Thanks to Hanam Mayor Lee Hyun-jae's campaign encouraging shopping at traditional markets, the area is becoming lively.”
When Hanam Mayor Lee Hyun-jae launched the ‘October Traditional Market Day’ campaign with the Women's Association Council to promote shopping at traditional markets, market merchants welcomed it with broad smiles and open arms.
‘Traditional Market Day’ is a campaign held once a month where Mayor Lee Hyun-jae and local organizations visit traditional markets and shopping districts together to encourage small business owners and promote the use of local commercial areas.
On this day, Mayor Lee Hyun-jae, Yoon Mi-ae, President of the Gyeonggi-do Women's Association Council Hanam Branch, and other attendees visited Seokbadae Shopping District and Sinjang and Deokpung Traditional Markets sequentially from 3 p.m., conducting promotional activities to revitalize traditional markets.
Mayor Lee Hyun-jae carried a shopping basket and purchased items such as perilla oil, pears, sticky rice sirutteok, salted mackerel, and garlic pickles using Onnuri gift certificates and Hanam’s local currency ‘Hamoney,’ filling both hands with shopping bags.
In particular, he actively encouraged shopping to help revive the local commercial district by introducing the charm of traditional markets to members of the Gyeonggi-do Women's Association Council Hanam Branch who participated in the campaign.
Mayor Lee stopped in front of stores within the traditional markets, promoting that freshly boiled jokbal (pig’s trotters) here tastes even better, and described tofu made from domestic soybeans as more savory, showing a cheerful reaction and perfectly fulfilling his role as a one-day promoter of the traditional market.
Additionally, he listened attentively to the difficulties and hardships of small business owners struggling due to the current poor economy and promised to do his utmost to revitalize the local economy.
Meanwhile, traditional markets in Hanam City have prepared various events for visitors. Sinjang Market operates a Friday Market every week where visitors can find various specialty products from outside regions. Deokpung Traditional Market holds a five-day market on the 4th and 9th of every month, selling a variety of goods, and plans to hold a ‘Grand Market Day Prize Event’ from November 4 to 6.
