Open at Yangju City Jang Uk-jin Art Museum until December 31
Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 31st that it will hold an experiential exhibition for young children titled "Following Jang Uk-jin into the Picture Puzzle" at the Yangju Municipal Jang Uk-jin Art Museum in cooperation with the Gyeonggi Northern Office of Education Early Childhood Experiential Education Center until December 31.
This exhibition is conducted by the Gyeonggi Northern Office of Education Early Childhood Experiential Education Center and offers a participatory exhibition combining art and play using works by Jang Uk-jin, a representative modern Korean artist, to local young children’s groups and family visitors.
In particular, the exhibition features slide puzzles made from Jang Uk-jin’s representative works "Mother Cow (1973)" and "Family (1973)," allowing children to freely assemble the pictures, easily access and understand Jang Uk-jin’s artistic world, and develop their artistic sensibilities, attracting attention.
Meanwhile, the Yangju Municipal Jang Uk-jin Art Museum and the Gyeonggi Northern Office of Education Early Childhood Experiential Education Center signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on June 21 to promote early childhood cultural and artistic experiences and develop regional cultural and artistic education. Their first project was the art-linked play experience program "Little Artist Laboratory with Artists" at the Yangju Municipal Art Creation Studio.
The "Little Artist Laboratory with Artists," conducted with resident artists of the Yangju Municipal Art Creation Studio, involved 37 local daycare centers and kindergartens.
On that day, children experienced the traditional hanji paper-making process and materials, and created mobiles together by weaving three-dimensional sculptures, providing a special time to enjoy and learn traditional culture and art while children reimagined the space, which received great positive responses.
Going forward, the two institutions plan to continuously expand exhibitions and educational programs for young children. Through the experiential exhibition "Following Jang Uk-jin into the Picture Puzzle," they aim to broaden early childhood education and art experiences in northern Gyeonggi Province and provide opportunities for various age groups to become familiar with Jang Uk-jin’s artistic world, thereby enhancing the museum’s recognition and influence.
A city official stated, "We hope this art experiential exhibition will be a special time for many people to feel and newly experience the warm messages about family, animals and plants, and nature that Jang Uk-jin wanted to convey through his paintings."
