Democratic Party Releases Recorded Conversation Between 'Kim Young-sun and Myung Tae-gyun'
Myung Tae-gyun: "If You Tell Me, I'll Do Exactly as Told"
The Democratic Party of Korea additionally released a recording of a conversation involving Myung Tae-kyun, a key figure suspected of interfering in the nomination process related to First Lady Kim Geon-hee. In the recording, Myung is heard shouting at former lawmaker Kim Young-sun, "If that's the case, then tell Kim Geon-hee (the First Lady) yourself, just do it!"
On the afternoon of the 31st, the Democratic Party disclosed this transcript through a press release. They stated that the excerpt was taken from conversations between Myung and acquaintances, including former lawmaker Kim, focusing on the dialogue between the two. The transcript was made public shortly after the party held an emergency Supreme Council meeting late that afternoon. Prior to releasing the recording, party leader Lee met with reporters at the National Assembly and said, "We judged this to be a kind of political emergency situation and agreed that the response must also be extraordinary."
According to the recording released by the Democratic Party, Myung told former lawmaker Kim, "You have to stick closely to Kim Geon-hee if you want to be elected for a sixth term next time, so you have to do as you're told," adding, "I told you not to do what you don't know." He also scolded, "Why are you making judgments? Kim Geon-hee holds the power. When the person in power gives orders, why are you talking nonsense?"
Furthermore, he said, "Do I really have to say such things?" and "If you're told to do something, just do it." It is not known what exactly Myung was instructing former lawmaker Kim to do as per the recording.
The Democratic Party believes the conversation took place in mid-June 2022. The party is pressuring the government and ruling party to accept the 'Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Act' to investigate the truth related to Myung Tae-kyun.
