As the Democratic Party of Korea released a recording presumed to be a phone call between President Yoon Seok-yeol and Mr. Myeong Tae-gyun, Hong Joon-pyo, the mayor of Daegu, said, "It really feels like a d?j? vu of the eve of impeachment," adding, "That is why former President Park Geun-hye ended up where she did."

In a post on his Facebook page that day, Mayor Hong criticized, "A single election broker, babbling recklessly to avoid arrest, is stirring up the country," and said, "The opposition party is obsessed only with attacking the president in response, but the ruling party opposing this is nowhere to be seen."

He also pointed out to the party leadership, "They are solely absorbed in internal power struggles."

Earlier, Park Chan-dae, the floor leader of the Democratic Party, revealed a phone call recording presumed to be between President Yoon and Mr. Myeong, stating, "This is the first confirmation of the president's voice proving his interference in candidate nominations." According to the transcript released by the Democratic Party, on May 9, 2022, President Yoon told Mr. Myeong, "The nomination committee brought it to me, so I said, 'Kim Young-sun worked hard during the primary, so let Kim Young-sun handle that.'"

Floor leader Park claimed, "The next day, May 10, the People Power Party actually nominated former lawmaker Kim Young-sun," adding, "This is irrefutable evidence that President Yoon illegally interfered in the nomination process and that there was a nomination deal, proving a serious matter that shakes the constitutional order."
